Kennesaw State University Department of Theatre and Performance Studies announced its 2012-13 season that includes a variety of plays, student improv and storytelling. Dean Adams, associate professor and artistic director of the department, describes the upcoming season as diverse in both form and content.

“This season, we feature new works in varying stages of development and re-imagined classics. Our work is very student-centric. We will have more than 100 students involved in every aspect of production, from creator to designer to performer,” he said.

John Gentile, professor and department chairperson, said, “I think all the productions will offer something special and unique, from fresh productions of well-known favorites such as ‘Cabaret’ and ‘Bus Stop’ to new stage versions of stories by W. B. Yeats and Anton Chekhov.”

Gentile’s adaptation of a collection of “Stories of Red Hanrahan” by Yeats is an example of the creative productions to come. He said, “Yeats is better known as a poet than as a fiction writer to most people, and I think the depth and power of his stories will surprise and delight audiences. I am particularly excited to have the opportunity to bring the prose fiction work of this major Irish writer to the stage.”

Gentile said the department strives to present seasons for the campus and local communities that offer a broad spectrum of voices, cultures, texts, periods and styles of performances.

“With such an engaging and diverse season, I am confident that there will be titles that appeal to many people with different interests,” he said.
