Marietta Police Officer David Baldwin said Officer James McClure was with others working the scene of a four-car wreck and stepped into the northbound roadway to stop traffic just after 2 p.m. One truck stopped, but a second truck, driven by Christopher Peyton, 52, of Marietta, rear-ended it, causing it to hit McClure.
McClure, 26, has been on the Marietta force just a few months but has four years of experience with another police department, Officer Michael Gardner said. He was taken by ambulance the short distance to WellStar Kennestone Hospital.
His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening, but “he is way banged up,” Baldwin said.
No other injuries were reported in the accident.
Charges are pending against Peyton.
