The demographics of SW Cobb have changed considerably over the last few years, but unfortunately, some of the changes have also included an increase in crime, gang activity, and an increase in investors buying up cheap homes and renting them to section 8 tenants that have contributed to the crime/gang issues mentioned above.
I have confidence that Mr. Thompson can come up with the ideas for change needed to bring SW Cobb back to where it once was in terms of public safety, and help implement them. We do not need another Stone Mountain or Clayton County in metro Atlanta - there is no return once you cross that line, as examples have shown. I urge SW Cobb voters to make the effort to vote during the runoff to help keep this from happening.
Your post gave me chills down my spine..WE do need JOHN SKELTON who has worked in the department. If someone does not know what all the job demands, what kind of mistakes will we have to live with? I posted BOTTOM LINE - again - It would be a disaster with Keaton.
Who do you want to be the person taking care of your real estate records and thousands of other important documents? All this party politics crap is ridiculous and Keaton will probably next claim that Skelton is a Communist. We need someone who has a CLUE what goes on in that office up on the square. Keaton had to be told recently that the Real Estate Division is part of the Clerk's Office. SHE HAD NO IDEA! The fact that she got 48% of the vote tells me that voters in Cobb County did zero homework and believed all those nasty mailers that were not accurate that she sent out.
History and experience with a GOOD REPUTATION in the LEGAL COMMUNITY is a MUST. Qualities and Character. Lets not forget HONESTY..which we certainly need when it comes to the other candidate.
Its seems the Keaton Supporters and campaign base are getting desperate and "skeered".
A good sign..
John Skelton is the only qualified candidate.
August 21, 2012.
What a joke..Keaton Mongers on the loose. You caught on too, Keaton Must Lose..giggle
Wake Up Marietta...This is why CHANGE is needed.
Still looking for that five million wasted....
Bill Byrnes & John Skelton - August 21, 2012.
The election is August 21, 2012. Cobb County has plenty of time to educate, enlighten its community with FACTS to support and VOTE for JOHN SKELTON. No need to move..lets MOVE THE VOTES!
She stated to MDJ she was retiring in Decmber when Mr. Stepheson does so what gives?
- integrity
- experience working in the office of the clerk
- has support of the current clerk, whose office is held in high regard around the state
- has support of current deputy clerk to aid office in transition to new clerk
- personality and good reputation in legal community to represent Cobb County well to the public
The person with all these is John Skelton.
Both of these candidates visited my home to ask for my vote. Mrs. Eckles returned my follow-up email with a phone call. Mr. Smith did not reply at all.
Both would be freshman reps with no voting record. I'm not satisfied with basing my vote on who returns calls.
More info please.
I feel sorry for the 6th grade students in his East Cobb middle school science classes. How can you be a role model and teacher if you can't tell the truth about what you are doing?
I am looking forward to the run off races on August 21st. Had we not had some "distractions" on the ballot there would of been less runoffs. Board of Commissioners Chairman — Tim Lee and Bill Byrne along with Superior Court Clerk — Rebecca Keaton and John H. Skelton. I am voting for Bill Byrne..some people hate his honesty and opinions but this community needs it. That goes for John H. Skelton as well..We need him. I am very pleased at the outcome of the results and look forward to August 21st. Please get out there and VOTE!
Voter's please get serious about your candidate choices and RESEARCH their history with our community. It truly is time for change and to move forward.
I have RESEARCH their history and John Skelton needs to get his facts straight, a couple of weeks ago a debate was held at Cobb County GOP headquarters the moderators were: Ross Cavitt of WSB-TV news, and Janel Davis of the Atlanta Journal & Constitution, one of the questions from the audience asking whether or not each candidate was truly a "Republican" and it was brought-up that John Skelton had voted in the 2008 Democratic Presidential Preference and...Skelton's answer to that point was "Look, the Republican candidate John McCain was already sewn-up by then, and I voted in the Democratic primary in an effort to mess that primary up as suggested by Rush Limbaugh in his plan for 'Operation Chaos.' " Yeah....two little problems with that answer from Skelton: 1) McCain had not won the primary yet because Mike Huckabee had actually won the Georgia Republican contest, and 2) As can be checked on the Georgia Secretary of State's Election Results web page for the 2008 Presidential Preference Primary, the date of that primary was February 5, 2008.
The earliest that Rush Limbaugh's 'Operation Chaos' idea came about was not until the date of February 14, 2008 as a result of the last caller of the day on that date..which can be viewed as a transcript on Rush's Website...AND...on 2/15/2008, another caller referred to that conversation between Rush and the last caller on 2/14/2008 in reference to "taking out Hillary..." In fact...it was not until the February 26, 2008 Limbaugh show that Rush mentioned the word "chaos" as a concept.
Also Mr. Skelton according Georgia Secretary of State's Election Results web page for the 2004 Presidential Preference Primary you voted again in the Democratic Presidential Preference, wasn’t John Kerry the original filp-floper running.
1. I want a true Republican in office and 2. I want a professional who doesn’t flip-flop and that will be Rebecca Keaton
In 2004 George W. Bush was unopposed in the Primary, but there was a Democrat primary to mess with.
According to the Sec. of State, Skelton voted in the 2006, 2008, and 2010 state Republican Primaries.
However, what Skelton didn't do is pick a running mate who had support for Barack Obama all over her facebook page before Keaton made her take it down (actually, Keaton picked a Democrat running mate at the last minute to replace her previous Republican running mate to get some sort of political advantage).
Just because Rush put a name to "Operation Choas" after the Georgia primary doesn't mean it wasn't a normal practice for Republicans to vote to help the worse Democrat. I remember that going on in 2004 when a lot of Republicans I knew voted Democrat for Al Sharpton to mess with that primary. Maybe that's what Skelton did in 2004 and decided to do it again in 2008.
At least if Skelton has to resign it won't flip the office from GOP to Democrat hands.
All I can say is, if Mr. Skelton did vote democratic to mess with a Presidential election; then what will he mess with as County Clerk….
More than ever Cobb County doesn’t need the likes of him….
Dornbusch ends bid for court clerk seat; cites health
by Kim Isaza, November 02, 2011 12:31 AM
newseditor@mdjonline.com The Marietta Daily Journal
MARIETTA — Elva Dornbusch has withdrawn from next year’s race for Cobb Superior Court Clerk because of an immediate health issue.
Dornbusch is the chief deputy court clerk, under Clerk Jay C. Stephenson, a job she has held since 2004. Stephenson is not seeking re-election when his term ends on Dec. 31, 2012. Dornbusch said she now intends to retire when Stephenson does.
“I thank all my supporters,” Dornbusch said. “I had a lot of them, and thank them for their confidence in me. But my health requires that I take care of myself first. I hope I can be of service to them in any other way.”
Dornbusch had intended to run with John Skelton as her choice for chief deputy. On Tuesday, Dornbusch said she has encouraged Skelton to run for the clerk’s seat.
So come’s filing time and we see Mr. Skelton runs for Clerk and his deputy is Ms. Dornbusch, what happen to her health? If her health improved to run as Deputy then why didn’t Mr. Skelton step down and allowed Ms. Dornbusch to continue to run for County Clerk? Already messing with things….
Don’t need the like of him……
I pray Michael Smith is not selected. He lacks many values needed for the office. He is not even concerned with this area. This is just a means for him to gain power and money. We have too many politicians like him already in office. Isn't it strange he moved into this district to run after learning the present representative, Terry Johnson, is retiring? He ran an unsuccessful campaign against Don Wix two years ago in District 33 (Mableton).
I personally don't care which one wins as I don't live in that district, and I don't know either of the candidates. Also, 2 years ago Don Wix lost to David Wilkerson. Smith ran against Wix in 2008.
I'm sure you won't be seen at Chic-fil-a today supporting Dan Cathy with that stupid comment. We have a moral crisis in this country today specifically because of a breakdown in "family values". As for the rest of the anti Bill Byrne crowd, yes he may have been a bit gruff but you seem to forget just how much county government and the County Commission was in disarray when he took charge. If you want someone that will cowtow to the Chamber of Commerce, and other big money interests, who want to force you to pay for MARTA's bloated operating costs, raise your taxes, then squander them on useless projects then support Lee. Mike Boyce and Larry Savage both saw through Lee and the Chamber boondoggle and put themselves out their to stop him now they should get behind Bill Byrne to defeat Tim Lee or we will get more of the same for the next 4 years.
Here’s info for you, during the debate a couple of weeks ago that I commented on Mary Miller post which Ross Cavitt of WSB-TV news, and Janel Davis of the Atlanta Journal & Constitution moderated.
During an answer Ms. Keaton made a comment about modernizing electronic possess in the Clerk’s office and Ross Cavitt asked her to explain and she did by saying employees need email, instant messaging, file E-forms over the internet and so on then it was Ms. Joan Davis’s turn and Ms. Davis EVEN agreed with Ms. Keaton that it would be a lot easier to be able to fill out a form from your office and send it electronic and less expensive and hassle than driving to the Courthouse and standing in-line to file it.
Mr. Skelton comment on the subject was, NO he wouldn’t change anything because it was running fine.
Also during the evenings questionings the subject of passports came up and Ms. Keaton wants the county to start processing passports that will bring money into the county instead of it going to the Fed’s and then Mr. Skelton’s answer was, no the county doesn’t need to be getting involved with that.
Really…… Mr. Skelton wants everyone to waste their gas and time to stand in line to file a document and correct me if I’m wrong but, isn’t Marietta’s main post office were they process passports one of the facilities that will close if USPS down sizes?
Let’s see Mr. Skelton wants everyone to waste their gas and time to file documents at the courthouse and doesn’t want to bring money to the County and if USPS closes Marietta’s main Post Office, he wants us to waste more gas and time some were else.
I’m voting, Rebecca Keaton.
Yes, the money collected from passports can be used to buy software to perform E-file and not one penny comes from Cobb taxpayers, can any other county department boost that?
We're supporting Byrne.
Tim Lee has vision.... sorry it aint free.
