Kenneth Paul Reda, 40, of Acworth, will be released Tuesday. He pleaded guilty in January 2011 to second-degree homicide by vessel, three counts of making false statements, violation of oath of officer by a public officer and tampering with evidence in connection to the April 22, 2010, death of Brent Stephens of Douglasville.
Reda was given a 15-year sentence, with four to be served in prison.
Reda was driving his 22-foot fishing boat on Lake Allatoona with Shelly Powell of Acworth and Stephens, police said. The boat hit a buoy, which sent Stephens overboard as the three were travelling to Harbor Town Marina, off Galts Ferry Road in Acworth, after eating dinner at Props ’n Hops restaurant on Victoria Landing Drive in Woodstock, according to police.
Police said Reda called 911 roughly 90 minutes after hitting the buoy, after dropping Powell off. He initially told a 911 operator that Stephens had jumped off the boat, and that it had just been him and Stephens on the boat. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, he told authorities that Powell was there to meet Stephens, even though it was Reda who was romantically involved with her.
Reda and Powell were arrested six days later.
In February 2011, Powell was convicted in Cherokee County Superior Court of making false statements to police and hiding evidence. She was sentenced to eight years’ probation.

So which precinct do you work at? I work for zone 2, arguably the roughest precinct in the county. If you really want to know what we do, then take the test. My guess is you cannot pass the background check.
Our backs were tied by the feds on illegal aliens, check the new laws yourself. Ticket writing, to which you implied, comprises maybe 5% of our shift, unless you are on STEP. The rest of the time, we are answering calls from citizens and arresting the very thugs you say we are scared of.

Law enforcement these days is becoming all about keeping middle Americans in check.
He wore a uniform and had the trust of his community and his best friend, he wore a wedding band and had the trust of his wife and family. Even thugs have a better sense of honor than this man. He's a disgrace, no matter who he continues and has yet to fool, no matter how much he tweets about God.

On the other side Kenneth Reda did NOT serve even half the prison sentence. 18 measley months for
lying under oath about what happened, how it happened, when it happened, who he was with, and blaming the other lady being that was there on Brent Stephens. Brent Stephens died and then became a victim of slander, all from his so called BEST FRIEND. Not acceptable! Parole at 18 months sickening! What's next, Reda gets his old
job back. I guess Reda throws a big party with his new best friends.

Why, "MOTHER" would YOU have paid his legal fees, he's an adult, when he had money saved and pension and all of the things that he was afraid to lose stacked up in the banks?? I feel sure it's been no picnic for the widow of the man he left in the water as if he'd never known he was there, or known him at all, to pay her bills and feed their children also. She surely can't say to them "daddy will be home next week". Ever.

If he's out, let the chips fall where they may, let him walk the walk and spend the rest of his days convincing himself that he COULD HAVE saved Brent Stephen's life...but, his "self preservation" kicked in and he just couldn't think of Brent.
