MARIETTA – The Cobb County School Board approved Cobb Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa’s recommendations to name three new heads of schools during a special called meeting at Hillgrove High early this morning.

The board met during prior to the 2012 Leadership Kick-Off gathering at Hillgrove in Powder Springs in order to name the three new hires for Lindley 6th Grade Academy, Lost Mountain Middle and Belmont Hills Elementary.

With only four of the seven members present and after meeting in executive session for 10 minutes to talk about the superintendent's recommendation, they approved moving Candace Wilkes from assistant principal at Allatoona High to Lost Mountain, Travis Joshua from assistant principal at Smitha Middle to Lindley 6th Grade and Bertha Nelson from assistant principal at Cartersville City Primary in Cartersville to Belmont Hills.

Lynnda Eagle, David Morgan and Tim Stultz were absent from the meeting.

Additionally, they approved a request of retirement from Allatoona High Principal Scott Bursmith. He will retire effective Dec. 1.

The board was supposed to hire a new Chalker Elementary principal but Cobb Superintendent Dr. Michael Hinojosa did not make a recommendation for that hire.

Please check tomorrow’s MDJ to find out more about the reassignments and new hires.

If and underling employed by the Cobb School Board is caught with their hands in the "cookie jar" it becomes a matter of public disclosure, especially if it leaks to the news media. But, when and higher up faces such and infraction, it is systematically met with the response, Person-nel matter or no comment. Why?

Turmoil and the Cobb County School Board. Isn't that and Oxymoron?

Lisa Hanson has been endorsed by the Cobb County Association of Educators, so I won't be voting for her. She can't possibly be both a Republican and a sweetheart of the local National Education Association chapter.

Google "NEA" and "donations" if you need help understanding why.

The CCAE has given money to every Board member, including Banks, $1000 to be exact. Only one of the current board didn't take money from them.

Banks called the CCAE THIS ELECTION CYCLE asking when they were going to endorse them and give him his money. He took money from them last election, but they spurned him this time so he condemns them! That is rich! He is the biggest hypocrite that ever held an office. He told voters he was in favor of a traditional calendar when he campaigned the first time and then HE LIED. Why would anyone believe anything he says, ever? Don't take my word for it, check his CCDRs. It's there in black and white.

Funny that you won't vote for his opponent because she accepted money from CCAE, but so has Banks.

If Post 5 votes for him, they get what they deserve. Unfortunately, the rest of the county has to endure him for four more years! Ugh!

What ever happened to the rumor that our students would be getting a new principal at Lindley 7th Grade?
Just that..

This year seems like it's seen the most shuffling and hiring of principals than ever before. Something tells me things are in a quiet uproar at CCSD.
Been there . . . .

Why would principals who have reached the 30 year mark stay with no raises in the forseeable future and more furlough days. Add in the hassles of the job and it's no wonder they retire.
Was Banks sleeping?

I am glad to see that David Banks was able to attend the meeting. I just visited his website and saw he was busy making false claims about what he has done for Lassiter High School.

How can Mr. Banks claim with a straight face that the Lassiter Theater was a result of his work?

The Theater was approved in SPLOST III before David was even elected. This is also true of most of the other bogus claims he made.

What he can claim is a vote for the I-Respond devices which are a high priced toy, according to Dr. John Abraham when he served on the board.

Banks can also claim support for his attempt to bully the teachers at Lassiter High School but none of the projects from SPLOST III. His inaccurate claims would be akin to President Kennedy claiming victory for D-Day, simply because he eventually served as the president.

You are incorrect about the theater - If you recall, he was the advocate for it to be BIGGER - something you wanted. Is that not correct?

After reading articles on this news site about a Cobb elementary school principal, I just did a quick search of each of these names on the MDJ and Cartersville Daily Tribune. Happy to see the names did not appear in the news before today! :) Good luck to all.
