COBB — Two chiropractors from Cobb County have been selected to travel to London for the 2012 Olympics and serve as performance enhancement specialists for the USA martial arts, Judo, wrestling, weight lifting and sitting volleyball teams.

Dr. David Jockers with Exodus Health Center in Kennesaw and Dr. Fred Roberto with West Cobb Chiropractic in Powder Springs said they both are working with the Olympic teams for the first time as part of the Maximized Living Wellness Advisory Council.

“It’s a great honor and I feel really blessed to have the opportunity,” said Jockers, who will fly out July 29 and work with the Olympic athletes until Aug. 6.

“I am very excited about this opportunity, all the hard work I have put in, to be considered at the top of my industry and have this privilege is very rewarding,” he said. “I am most excited for my clients who get to brag that they see an Olympic level doctor.”

He will be on call with these five Olympic teams but will work mostly with the USA Judo team.

Roberto, who flies out July 25, said he’s been working closely with the wrestling athletes over the last five months at their training facility in Colorado, traveling for weeks at a time to help them condition for the Olympics. He won’t return back to the states until Aug. 13.

“I’m really excited to watch these guys that I’ve gotten to know,” he said. “To know the effort an Olympic athlete puts forth, to know that they’re on a world stage, I’m anxious to see it play out.”

Jockers wasn’t quite sure what his schedule would entail but Roberto, who’s worked with the teams a little more in the past but never served as an Olympic doctor traveling with them, said they will be busy from dusk till dawn.

“Anything the athletes will need, we’re there for,” Roberto said. “We’ll do a lot of performance stuff with them … weight optimization, nutrition, take care of their spine and nervous system … we’re at their beck and call.”

They will also cover the athletes’ health, nutrition, exercise and detoxification while they’re there.

Like Jockers, he will have an opportunity to work with all the Olympic teams, but his main focus will be working with the free style wrestlers.

Both local chiropractors have own their own practices in Cobb and came to the area by way of Life University.

Roberto said he’s been in Powder Springs for about 20 years but is originally from New Jersey.

“This is mixing my greatest passions,” Roberto said about working as a chiropractor and wrestling team doctor. When he isn’t traveling to train with Olympic wrestlers, he’s working with Hillgrove and Harrison high schools’ wrestling teams.

Jockers has owned his Kennesaw clinic for the last three years. He came to Cobb in 2004 from St. Augustine, Fla., to attend Life’s graduate program for chiropractic medicine.

“It’s the philosophy that the body heals from the inside out,” Jockers said when asked why he chose chiropractic medicine. “It just resonates in my heart and it’s something that I didn’t know about but once I understood the desire and philosophies, I was led to the opportunity to help and serve people.”
