SMYRNA, Ga. (AP) — A plastic surgeon and his office staff came to the aid of a landscaper who nearly sliced off his arm with a power tool and nearly collapsed in a pool of blood in front of the doctor's building in Smyrna.

Filiberto Huaracha, tells WSB-TV that the saw of a stone grinder ripped through his arm, nearly slicing it in two.

Huaracha says he began running, spotted a sign for a doctor's office about 500 yards away, and made it to the front walk of Dr. Keith Jeffords.

Jeffords said his staff and even his patients helped in the rescue effort.

Huaracha said Tuesday that surgeons at Grady Memorial Hospital were able to save his arm. He believes he probably would have died had it not been for Jeffords and others who helped.

This is typical as to why healthcare is going bankrupt and why costs are shifted to the productive. I would bet this is your typical illegal alien worker who has no health insurance and no worker's compensation who shows up in our emergency room every day for free care. They give low bids to take jobs away from American contractors....don't give me any bull....we see this every day. If we had e-verify, we would not be getting these injuries among unskilled laborers who claim they are trained. Let's make him pay the bill...since he was transported to Grady....that is a clue as to his coverage....wake up...all you people who don't hire American workers...we are losing this country because you hire these people.

..is he here legally or illegally?

Was he working for a company at the time of the accident?

Did they have insurance?

Will the surgeons bill & hospital bill at Grady be paid by insurance, workers comp., a homeowners insurance policy, or by us , the taxpayers?

This is a legitimate question that the newspaper should research.

Some of understand fully what 'on the backs of taxpayers' means!

Some of us call that racial profiling. A Latino-sounding name doesn't automatically mean somebody is here illegally.

Let's say he does not have insurance--should we, the taxpayers, let him die?

His legal status and his insurance status are not the business of the news to report. If he were white, nobody would be asking these questions.

That is the essence of racial profiling.

If he is here legally (no reason to think otherwise), at least Obamacare will force him to obtain insurance in the future and/or give his employer an incentive to provide insurance.

...and some people call Americans that cannot see clearly what is happening to our country,.. just plain IGNORANT!

Wish America would grow a set, racial profile & protect it's citizens.

What ya gonna do, when our country collapses? Racial profiling will be the least of all our worries, you'll soon see.

You do realize the rest of the world is merely laughing & waiting.

Not your America

Just in case you forgot, America isn't just for white people. "Our country?" As in, white people's country? Um... don't think so.

Latinos are Americans, my friend. Many of them were in the west long before the United States even existed.

The census data is 100% clear, within the next 20 years, the US will no longer be majority white. People need to accept this inevitable reality and realize that minorities are Americans, too. The US immigrant fabric is what makes us strong.

The Latinos in my community are hardworking, family-oriented, and amiable. They are a welcome part of my neighborhood.

The majority of Latinos are in this country legally, don't forget that. I agree we need to secure our borders, but don't let your prejudice allow you to discriminate against your fellow Americans.

Cheers!

You certainly have no idea who I am or what color my skin is.

America is a great melting pot, which I am part of! The difference in today & the '40's & 50's, is the criminals sneaking over the border today, are here soley to make money! MY family came here to become Americans & have an alligence to America.

You can't compare this new wave! They have no respect for America!!

Who said anything about WHITE America?

There is a difference between legal & ILLEGAL & anyone that can't see that the latino (legal) community is covering for their illegal brothers, is just not being honest!

You, no doubt, don't like white people!

Me, I don't support ILLEGAL immigration, no matter what the ethnicity!

I personaly know Doctor Jeffords and I am not surprised by his act of compassion for this man. He is currently listed in the Atlanta Magazine as one of the top doctors in Atlanta. Way to go Doc, you did good, again.

What are you talking about?

This guy didn't break any laws by seeking help from a nearby doctor. I commend the doctor for being such a good samaritan!

And why do you think everything in the US is free?

Strange...
