Some feedback from readers about TSPLOST, “racializing” MARTA, and other issues:

Thanks for the truth: This (TSPLOST) is a monstrosity that will cost us a lot of money for the foreseeable future and will help us very little. Folks need to look at this very carefully before they cast their vote. And this thing about “walkable areas” is a joke. How many would we need? Gizillions, I’ll bet, if you leave it up to the developers!

Been Around Here: Since we are talking about MARTA & “racializing” Atlanta, it should also be mentioned and it never is, what Cobb County voters were actually offered years ago when we voted on MARTA. Cobb citizens were offered ONE line coming from downtown Atlanta to Windy Hill. And the citizens/taxpayers would pay for around 20 years before that line was built. That was a huge reason as to why the voters of Cobb County voted down MARTA. Another big reason was the fact that the powers of Atlanta would be in control. Another huge no no. So if this TSPLOST does not pass, the reasons will be because the content of the projects is flawed for the counties involved….

SG68: The reason that Cobb County had and still has issues with MARTA has little if anything to do with the “R” word. That was a label pinned on Cobb and Gwinnett by the AJC and the minority community in Atlanta and DeKalb who were upset we didn’t agree to join in their fiasco. Just because we recognized the idiocy of paying taxes for twenty to twenty five years before the first MARTA line crept into the very southern portions of the county doesn’t make us racists or bigots. Our good judgment in voting against MARTA has been proven sound over and over and over again. These days it has everything to do with having enough sense not to throw good money after bad. MARTA is and always has been a poorly managed, dysfunctional and inefficient transit system. Why would we want to invest in something like that for the rest of our taxpaying lives!!

Rainyday80: Mass transit in Atlanta suburbs included is a joke. We have a rail system that only moves in four directions and in a lot of places where the bus can drop you off, there is no sidewalk. I ride through nice shopping areas that are super congested with traffic and think, why can’t they build a pedestrian overpass? or why can’t there be a sidewalk here?....unfortunately, TSPLOST is not the answer. Can we invest a little more in MARTA and better city planning, because seriously, Atlanta IS choking in traffic. Where are the tax dollars being spent? DeKalb and Fulton have some of the highest taxes, thanks to MARTA. Where is that money going? What about that GA 400 toll? Where is that going? That road has been paid for.

Just Say No: It’s racist? Really? If white suburbanites have really “racialized it”... then why is the NAACP also against it?

Why doesn't the city of Kennesaw propose its own 1% sales tax (or 2 or 3%) and use that to create the by pass for the downtown railroad crossing? Why do we have to tie into the metro Atlanta splost and run the risk of them mismanaging the funds and we never het our bypass at all much less in 10 years?
