WEST COBB — An 18-year-old man is accused of stabbing his mother to death Monday, Cobb Police said.

Police said a young man called 911 at 1:43 p.m. Monday and said he had stabbed Diane McElrath, 58, in her home in the Zachary Woods Subdivision off Barrett Parkway, near the intersection of Dallas Highway and Barrett Parkway.

Police identified the suspect as Damian McElrath, 18, the victim’s son.

The woman was dead when police arrived at the house.

Cobb Jail records show a Damian McElrath of the same address was released on May 29, after serving 27 days for a probation violation. He pleaded guilty in March to felony shoplifting, criminal trespass and obstruction.

Neighbors declined to speak to reporters at the scene.

Damian McElrath is being held without bond at the Cobb County Jail on charges of aggravated assault and murder.

It was just a few weeks ago I was In Atlanta building a ramp for her house, one of the nicest people I ever met,And what hurts even more is that Ms. McElrath was my sister Margurite B. Eulins best friend, out of Kennasaw GA.The night before her passing she and my sister had drop my mom (Minister Rita D. Waller) also from Kennasaw at the greyhound bus station. My mom told me"she told Diane I will see you when I get back I love you" not knowing we would get a tragic phone call shortly after making home in bellwood Ill.my prayers and condolencs go out to the entire McElrath family and my dear big sister Margurite Eulin.God Bless
