ATLANTA (AP) _ The GBI is investigating a police-involved shooting that occurred Wednesday night in southwest Atlanta.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is involved in the case at the request of Atlanta Police Chief George Turner. The shooting occurred around 8:40 p.m. at the Mall West End. Police received information that a Mississippi fugitive they were seeking was in a black SUV in the parking lot of the mall.

During the arrest attempt, police say the fugitive was shot and killed by officers. The Fulton County Medical Examiner is conducting an autopsy and will confirm the fugitive’s identity after next of kin has been notified.

The completed investigation will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney.
