Neighborhood Cinema Group’s Marietta Cinemas is opening its doors Friday. The theater will be located in the former Regal Cinemas building at 1050 Powder Springs St., near Bellemeade Drive.
The 10-screen movie theater, which will feature stadium seating, 3D screens and surround sound, has city leaders excited.
“It’s right in the heart of my area,” Marietta City Councilman Grif Chalfant said. “I’m looking forward to it, seeing a lot of people going to it.”
Chalfant said he doesn’t go to the movies very often, but when he does it’s with his five grandchildren, who enjoy seeing 3D films, which the new theater will be playing.
Mayor Steve Tumlin said his wife, Jean Alice, will likely enjoy the new cinema.
“My wife is the theater-goer in our family, and it’s not far from our home, so we’re excited,” he said Monday.
Tumlin said his wife has had to drive up to the
theaters near Town Center mall off Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw to see movies.
“There are two up there and she likes both of them, but we have granddaughters (ages 3 and 5) that she can’t wait to go to the movies with here,” he said.
Beth Sessoms, Marietta’s economic development director, said NCG would be the only cinema in the city limits aside from the Strand, which occasionally shows movies.
She said the theater did not get any incentives or tax breaks for the multi-million dollar renovation, which 50 contractors worked on. NCG, which also operates a cinema in Acworth, expects to create 40 to 50 part-time jobs and several full-time management positions, according to the city.
NCG Cinemas spokesman Pat O’Boyle said the new theater’s ticket prices will match those in Acworth. NCG Acworth Cinemas offers $6 matinees Monday through Thursday until 6 p.m. and Friday through Sunday before noon. Regular admission is $9 for adults, $8 for students and military, and $7 for children and seniors.
The theater will also offer free refills for soft drinks and popcorn, online ticket purchases, group rates and a party room. Showtimes, which haven’t been released, will be available online at www.ncgmovies.com or at (678) 303-4845 by 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
