MARIETTA — Marietta police are searching for a man suspected of burglarizing multiple businesses along the Canton Road corridor.

The man is believed to be responsible for several burglaries in 75 Canton Professional Park and several others in industrial parks. Police say he enters by breaking into the businesses with an unknown object, but are uncertain if he is working alone or has a vehicle.

Marietta Officer David Baldwin said the burglaries occurred within the past two weeks and that the last one happened about a week ago. In total, there have been six businesses hit in the city, police said.

“It appears it is office-type places after hours,” said Baldwin.

Baldwin said the items that have been stolen in the burglaries have varied, with nothing in particular targeted.

“It appears random at this point,” he said.

Carl Fowler of Niche Video, located in an office suite at 75 Canton Professional Park at 1335 Canton Road near Interstate 75, said $15,000 worth of laptops and other equipment were stolen from his

business when someone broke into its office.

He said it looked as if the glass double doors leading into the office building had been pried open and that his company’s interior core door had been kicked in.

“You sort of feel defiled in a way in that someone has come in and gone through your office, through your drawers, and your personal stuff had been moved around,” said Fowler, who is the video broadcast equipment seller’s chief financial officer.

“You’re thanking God that you have insurance that will replace that stuff, but in this economy those that didn’t have it — it’ll will be devastating for them to replace stuff. Especially since some of the stuff that they took was going out to customers.”

The suspect is described as a black male between 6 feet 1 inch and 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a thick build. He has little or no hair on his head and wears black horn-rimmed glasses. Surveillance cameras showed him last wearing a tan-colored button shirt, black pants and black sneakers with a white Nike “swoosh” emblem.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the Marietta Police Tip Line at (770) 794-6990 or Det. Matthew Parker at (770) 794-5380.
