Agrees with Rush, but not with his choice of words

DEAR EDITOR:

I read the MDJ every day and have for years. I often say that I am going to write a letter, but until now I have not. In reference to the Rush Limbaugh/Sandra Fluke story, I feel that I need to comment. I usually vote Republican and I do not agree with the government taking care of me and my needs. I am against Obamacare. So I agree with Rush on that, but just because I agree with him doesn’t mean that I would speak of Sandra Fluke the way he has.

We have lost the ability to disagree politely. We have lost common decency. When I was in my 20s someone told me that people who use foul language and called others vulgar names did so because they were not smart enough to express themselves otherwise. Why have we reached the point where we cannot voice our opinion without being crude? And saying that the other side does it doesn’t justify it either. I’m not saying that everyone needs to “buy the world a Coke and sing in harmony,” but I truly believe that we can express our side without being obscene.
