Author to speak on bomber plant

MARIETTA — MDJ Editorial Page editor and author Joe Kirby is giving a pair of illustrated talks about his books that are open to the public.

Kirby will be speaking Thursday evening to the Roswell Historical Society on his 2008 book, “The Bell Bomber Plant,” about the massive aircraft assembly plant built in Marietta during World War II at which 668 B-29 Superfortress bombers were produced during the war. The Society meets at Great Oaks on Mimosa Boulevard in Roswell at 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Connie Huddleston at (770) 364-6512.

Kirby also will speak at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Temple Kol Emeth Brotherhood breakfast at Temple Kol Emeth on Roswell Road in east Cobb. That talk will be about his 2011 follow-up book, “The Lockheed Plant,” which tells the story of the same plant from 1951-2011.

The author will have copies of all his books at the talks (cost $22 each, cash or check only) to sell and sign at the breakfast.
