Guest column on Romney overlooked what Paul offers

DEAR EDITOR:

Re: Guest column, “The Only Viable Candidate, And He’s Getting Trashed by His Party Because of His Religion,” William Farrar Jr., Sunday’s MDJ

Mr. Farrar goes to great lengths to address the absolute irrelevance of Mitt Romney’s religion. He also contends that Romney is “the only viable candidate,” and states that Romney is going to be the next president. He quotes Romney’s father as saying, after a tour in Vietnam, “We are being brainwashed in Vietnam.” I am a Vietnam vet and Romney’s father was right. Farrar went on to say, “That statement, fueled by the media, cost him the presidency. But he spoke the truth.”

He also disparagingly and accurately mentioned Newt Gingrich, saying “There is no way this man can be elected with the media against him.”

And yet Mr. Farrar does not even mention Ron Paul as a “viable candidate,” even though he is supported by over 70 percent of our military and has received more campaign contributions from our military than all the other candidates combined and by some polls is now in second place and climbing.

Paul speaks the plain, hard constitutional truth and many special interests, including those who control our brainwashing media, do not want us to hear it. Our military men and women are telling us something important and we should listen to them. They are telling us that putting that little yellow ribbon on your car to honor them is nice, but absolutely pointless if you do not listen to what they are telling you.

One of the most painful wounds I got in Vietnam was on the very tip of the middle finger of my left hand. It was cut to the bone and the corpsman quickly stitched it up for me. I now sometimes enjoy holding it up and showing the scar to those who will not listen to our military. Semper Fidelis.

Sorry Kenneth the Republicans will select their nominee the same way they always do. It's his turn! Deomcrats fall in love Republicans fall in line. Like Dole, H.W. Bush and McCain Romney will get his shot. Rep Paul isolationist views will never fly in a party that worships military intervention and defense spending. Take away the guns, bombs, aircraft and military hardware this country has no manufacturing base left. The military isn't our most important product it's our only product. Liberitarians and evangelicals will just have to swallow hard and take their medicine.

To "just saying" whoever you are, they are not only interesting statistics, they are, unlike your own comments, completely accurate. For your much needed edification I have listed the following: (I will also show you my scar if you want to see it)

What Active Duty Members Can Do

Can - Register, vote, and express a personal opinion on political candidates and issues, but not as a representative of the Armed Forces.

Can - Promote and encourage other military members to exercise their voting franchise, if such promotion does not constitute an attempt to influence or interfere with the outcome of an election.

Can - Join a political club and attend its meetings when not in uniform.

Can - Serve as an election official, if such service is not as a representative of a partisan political party, does not interfere with the performance of military duties, is performed when not in uniform, and the Secretary concerned has given prior approval. The Secretary concerned may NOT delegate the authority to grant or deny such permission.

Can - Sign a petition for specific legislative action or a petition to place a candidate's name on an official election ballot, if the signing does not obligate the member to engage in partisan political activity and is done as a private citizen and not as a representative of the Armed Forces.

Can - Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper expressing the member’s personal views on public issues or political candidates, if such action is not part of an organized letter-writing campaign or a solicitation of votes for or against a political party or partisan political cause or candidate. If the letter identifies the member as on active duty (or if the member is otherwise reasonably identifiable as a member of the Armed Forces), the letter should clearly state that the views expressed are those of the individual only and not those of the Department of Defense.

Can - Make monetary contributions to a political organization, party, or committee favoring a particular candidate or slate of candidates, subject to the limitations of law.

Can - Display a political sticker on the member's private vehicle.

Can - Attend partisan and nonpartisan political fundraising activities, meetings, rallies, debates, conventions, or activities as a spectator when not in uniform and when no inference or appearance of official sponsorship, approval, or endorsement can reasonably be drawn.

Can - Participate fully in the Federal Voting Assistance Program.

OK I understand that military personnel have personal views, are free to participate out of uniform and are not apolitical, but how in a diverse military containing hundreds of thousands could anyone ectrapolate a 70% approval rating for anyone.

Not interested in seeing your scar although anyone with multipal purple hearts from Viet Nam has my admiration. I would only like to know what orifice you pull your statistics from.

To "just sayin",

Do some homework, as any veteran will tell you, "wounds" do not equate to Purple Hearts. The orifice is called research; do your own. Do you know how?

Interesting statistics, I did find that Rep Paul received $25,000 over a three month period in 2011 while Pres Obama received $16,000 over the same period from military sources. I am curious about where the 70% military support statistic comes from? Since under the Uniform Code of Military Justice members should not engage in partisan political activities, and members not on active duty should avoid inferences that their political activities imply official sponsorship, approval or endorsement.

Well said. Mr. Parrott.

A new survey done by CBS News shows that Ron Paul will do very well against Obama. He does especially well among independent voters.

A vote for Romney is a wasted vote, if you don't like Obama's policies and direction. Romney just tells you what you want to hear. Look at his history.

Support the man that our soldiers and sailors support, Ron Paul. Our active military people have grown wise.

Mr. Jones, I think you need to look at Romney's history. He is an honest citizen with the highest character and morals. He has the experience needed to lead our nation and the know how to turn the economy around. What part of less spending and smaller government do you disagree with? He hit the problem with our nation that everyone has ignored: out nation will not survive if we do not go back to the morals that our nation was built upon. It is time we had government officials whose morals were non so immoral they should not even be discussed on the news media. I am Latter Day Saint, but I will investigate all the people running. I was a committed delegate to Ronald Reagan in 1980. I am currently reading the book on Ron Paul and I am impressed with his integrity. I think you should put that as a prerequisite for any candidate and then look at their record and plan.
