WellStar appoints Akopov to VP, chief roles

MARIETTA — WellStar Health System announced on Tuesday that Val Akopov, M.D., has been appointed as vice president and chief of hospitalist services. In his new role, Akopov will now oversee 35 hospitalists at WellStar Cobb, Douglas, Kennestone, Paulding and Windy Hill hospitals.

“WellStar’s hospitalists play an important role in inpatient care and are typically trained in internal medicine,” WellStar spokesman Keith Bowermaster said. “From admission through discharge, they focus exclusively on inpatient care and may order tests, monitor a patient’s recovery from surgery, prescribe medicine and implement treatment options to ensure a patient’s best outcome.”

Most recently, Akopov served as director of hospital medicine services for Emory University Hospital Midtown, where he helped establish the facility’s academic hospitalist program. Akopov was the hospital’s director of care coordination, where he oversaw operations of social services and the utilization review department.

So who want's to lay odds, how long this guys sticks around? Maybe 100 days? until he bumps up against the current oligarchy led by the TRUE and RIGHTFUL WELLSTAR CEO (Jim B.)

Why doesn't MDJ investigate the shenanigans going on between the CFO and the VP HR? Community being served? I don't think so. Good old boy politics at it's finest.

Oh well, let's keep counting down the days until another significant change occurs at good old wellstar.
