Jorelys, a first-grade student at Canton Elementary School, disappeared around 5 p.m. Dec. 2 at the River Ridge at Canton apartment complex and, following an extensive search throughout the weekend, her body was found around noon Monday in a metal trash bin.
An autopsy concluded she had been beaten, stabbed and sexually assaulted in a vacant apartment unit in a building adjacent to where she lived.
Police have charged Ryan McCabe Brunn, 20, with murder and giving false statements to the police in connection to Jorelys’ death. He remains in the county jail. The death and subsequent arrest have garnered national attention and shaken many in the local community.
