LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) _ California authorities say a woman died after falling some 75 feet into the water from the Queen Mary ocean liner in Long Beach Harbor.

Long Beach Fire Department spokesman Steve Yamamoto says firefighters received a call Monday night that a woman had fallen off the ship and a 40-year-old man jumped about 15 feet into the water to rescue her. The woman was hospitalized in critical condition.

Lt. MacWillie Cheryl with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office said Tuesday the woman died at the hospital. Her name and age were not immediately released.

The man also was taken to a hospital for treatment of hypothermia. His condition was unknown Tuesday.

MacWillie says the woman had apparently been drinking with her boyfriend and lost her balance.
