MARIETTA – In preparation for the proposed closure of three Cobb elementary schools over the next two years, the district is hosting two public forums this week.

According to two redistricting maps released by the Cobb County School District last week, Brown, Fitzhugh Lee H.A.V.E.N. Academy and Sky View elementary schools are recommended for closing starting in August 2012. The district is also proposing the reorganization of Austell Primary and Intermediate schools, recommending they both become traditional kindergarten through fifth-grade elementary schools.

The public forum for Phase 1 schools will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Pebblebrook High School, 991 Old Alabama Road in Mableton.

Phase 1 schools include Austell Intermediate and Primary, Birney, Bryan, Clarkdale, Clay, Hollydale, Mableton, Milford, Riverside Intermediate and Primary, Russell, Sanders and Sky View elementary schools.

Schools in Phase 1 would be affected by the process starting in August 2012.

The public forum for Phase 2 schools will be held Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Campbell High School, 5265 Ward St. in Smyrna.

Phase 2 schools include Argyle, Belmont Hills, Brown, Green Acres, Harmony Leland, King Springs, LaBelle, New Smyrna, Milford, Nickajack, Norton Park and Teasley elementary schools.

Schools in Phase 2 would be affected by the process starting in August 2013.

This does not affect me. But why would you put Brown in phase one when it has no trailers?!?

I have a close friend that had kids in Brown 2 years ago and people loved it.

I know it makes sense to consolidate with respect to operational costs of the facility and even the labor and salary of administrators. I applaud the school system for trying to be good stewards of the limited financial resources we have in that respect.

But let's start with the schools with trailers in phase one. If I am wrong someone will smack me down. But aren't the trailers leased? If so how long are the leases locked in? Again this isn't negatively affecting my kids, but shouldn't the goal be getting kids out of trailers at Belmont or Argyle or wherever ASAP, as opposed to shuttering a school without trailers?!

Tim Stultz please take this into account and work to get rid of trailers FIRST.
