Nuclear Regulatory Commission officials will meet with TVA executives at the utility’s oldest nuclear plant near Athens, Ala.
The NRC in May gave TVA a “red” or “high safety significance” rating due to the failure of the cooling-water injection valve that the NRC said may have been inoperable more than 18 months. It is part of a system that would be used for core cooling during certain accident scenarios.
The valve has been replaced.
TVA nuclear spokesman Ray Golden told the Chattanooga Times Free Press the utility is taking the “red” rating seriously.
