Wayne Leigh Coxwell, M.D., age 69, passed away on August 2, 2011, at his home in Apalachicola, Florida, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 21, 1941 in Jackson, Alabama. He attended Jackson High School in Jackson, AL and received his M.D. from UAB Medical School in 1970. Wayne was a member of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Coxwell practiced medicine at Cobb General in Austell, GA, Lloyd Nolan Hospital in Birmingham, AL and ended his practice back in Austell and Douglasville, GA. It is estimated he delivered more than 5,000 babies. He retired to Apalachicola, FL in 2006. Wayne had a love of water, fishing, nature, gardening and wood working. He also had a passion for riding his motorcycle. He will long be remembered by his family and friends for his fabulous sense of humor, his warm, loving smile and being the consummate host. He is preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Dot Coxwell, his son, David Williams Coxwell and sister, Sandra Coxwell Garrett. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Beverly Brandon Coxwell; daughters, Amy Coxwell Coble, St. Simon Island, GA, Santina Ann Larkin, Norfolk VA; sons, Wayne Leigh Coxwell, Jr., Birmingham, AL, John Semes Larkin, Beijing, China; one brother, George Edward Coxwell, Roan Mountain, TN; eight grandchildren. Memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 10, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, Apalachicola, FL. He was such a great Doctor, I saw him while pregnant with my first son, Hugs and Prayers to his family and friends
