ATLANTA (AP) _ Zoo Atlanta says a rare 7-year-old female Sumatran tiger has given birth to two cubs.

The zoo says the cubs born Tuesday are the first offspring for the female, Chelsea, and 10-year-old male Kavi, and are the first tigers born at Zoo Atlanta in more than a decade.

The zoo describes Sumatran tigers as the world’s rarest tiger species, with fewer than 400 believed to remain in the wild.

Zoo officials say Chelsea and her cubs are bonding in a specially prepared indoor den. They say the cubs will soon be available for viewing by webcam. No date has been set for them to be seen live.
