LITHONIA, Ga. (AP) _ A woman says a man carjacked her in Atlanta, and DeKalb County authorities say they’re searching a lake for him after he crashed the car into a tree.

Assistant DeKalb Fire Chief Garret Smith says the man was fleeing police early Tuesday when the car struck a tree in the Southland Country Club. Police say the man jumped into a lake, tried to swim across and disappeared.

A boat from DeKalb Fire and Rescue began searching the lake Tuesday morning. Searchers were awaiting the Hall County Fire and Rescue’s dive team to arrive to explore the lake, which is 20 to 25 feet deep.
