KENNESAW — A Powder Springs man accused of dousing his former girlfriend with gasoline and then setting her on fire at a Barrett Parkway gas station early Wednesday has turned himself in, Cobb Police say.

Morgan Elijah Yarbrough, 25, of Powder Springs has been charged with aggravated assault intent to murder, aggravated battery and first-degree arson, all felonies.

The attack occurred just after 2 a.m. at the B.P. Station at 575 Barrett Parkway, near Interstate 75.

According to investigators, Yarbrough was arguing with his former girlfriend when he doused her with gasoline from one of the pumps and ignited it. The suspect then fled in a black 2007 Dodge Charger R/T bearing Georgia tag AXC 8713.

The woman, whose name was not released, is being treated for severe burns, police said.

Yarbrough turned himself in at the Cobb County Police Department at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

This is not the first such attack in Cobb County.

In 2008, Anjail Muhammad of Gadsden, Ala., was convicted in Cobb Superior Court and sentenced to life in prison after being convicted of killing her girlfriend in 2003 by dousing her with gasoline and lighting it at a Chevron gas station in Marietta. The victim in that case, Nodiana Antoine, spent about six weeks in the burn unit at Grady Memorial Hospital before she succumbed to her injuries.

Cobb Police can be reached at 911 or (770) 499-3945.

@Cobb Overwatch. Here is a fact, not rumor. Any cuts in service by the police are made by the Chief and upper management, with the blessing of the County Manager. IF services are cut and YOU blame the officer on the street, you are a fool. But I guess that is obvious with your "suck it up" comment. The fact is that the police will be doing the same job with fewer people. To belittle and demean the beat cop for choices they have no control over only demonstrates a poor grasp of reality. And if you ever need the police for a real emergency, I hope they are not tied up verifying a VIN number for someone else.

A rumor of a grand idea has surfaced at Cobb police. The idea, though not confirmed, the police department will cut services so we the citizens will become angry with county leadership. Uh, strike me as dumb, but that's ridiculous to even imagine the result would be positive for the police because if Mr. Officer's professionalism and performance of service drops, so does my support for you. So heed this advice, you better suck it up and do the job "you" chose to do because everyone in the community is paying the price of our economical woes. Haven't you seen all the foreclosure and for sale adn out of business signs when you're out there driving around in your precincts? If not, open your eyes.

I've also learned of an idea that we will no longer be able to call for an officer to respond to certain things such as an accidents that occur in parking lots, insignificant thefts, and a validation of vehicle identification codes for purchased vehicles that is required for registration. However, I conducted some research and found the DMV can validate those vehicle codes, so don't panic just take it to them and demand they do it because it isn't solely a police function from my understanding.

Policeman's Ball: What are you talking about? Notify you about what? Why? Who are you? Were you going to do something other than complain, like here, that the police aren't working hard enough to catch him? It's apparent you're stupid.

A question and thought to leave on: Why doesn't the Cobb County Sheriff's Office and the Cobb County Police Department merge into one organization? I don't know the answer, but would it be more cost effective in the long run?
Really!!

OK, we saw him do this, so let's douse him in gas and light him on fire and film it as well. Maybe put him out. But no, we will put him in jail and give him meals and a bed for a horrible crime when he should be put to death.
