Robby Heisner and his longtime partner, Michelle Raven, opened Van Gogh Productions in Smyrna more than three years ago. The video production company is an extension of Robby s background in music while in a successful band with his brother.<br>Staff/Erin Gray

At Van Gogh, Inc., a video production company, Robby Heisner dreams, creates and inspires.

At the 3,600-square-foot mini television studio located at 2968 Ask-Kay Drive in Smyrna, the company produces everything from music videos to commercials including DVD, broadcast and web production.

"(VG) is our little piece of Hollywood in Smyrna," owner Heisner said. "If you do a good job and you're reasonable, people will keep coming back."

Heisner established the basis for his business after spending years in the entertainment business. The member of several bands - including Blitz in the '80s - the music writer and his brother, Ricky, formed their rock band Van Gogh in the '90s. The brothers toured from coast to coast, self-producing five records over the years.

After the band stopped traveling following the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Heisner worked primarily as a lighting director and then moved into video production with his girlfriend of 21 years Michelle Raven.

"(Van Gogh, Inc.) took off," said the winner of 12 Tele Awards for editing and other communications awards. "Anyone can own the equipment. It's the creativity that we bring to it.

"To me (video production) is a culmination of everything I learned musically, show-wise, lighting-wise, graphics-wise," he said.

Among Van Gogh Inc.'s clients is Naturally 7, a Vocal-Play group that uses their voices to make instrument sounds. The company created, shot and edited a YouTube video, "Wall of Sound," that gained the group national attention with more than 1.7 million hits, according to Heisner. Following the video, the band performed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Tavis Smiley Show and with Michael Buble.

Though Heisner's work is inspiring, perhaps the man himself is most inspiring. At age 8, Heisner, like his brother Ricky, was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. Performing and later working from a power wheelchair since age 24, his abilities overshadow his disability.

Heisner has achieved as a singer, songwriter, producer, director, event planner and award-winning editor. "It just shows you it's what's between your ears," he said. "It's how you deliver something. When I'm around people, I think they forget I'm in a wheelchair."

Heisner was hired by Invacare, a wheelchair manufacturer, along with his brother when they were still touring with their band for two national ad campaigns.

"(The disability) is never an excuse for anything," Heisner said.
