ATLANTA - An Atlanta truck driver described by authorities as a serial rapist who lured women into his semitrailer and attacked them during a four-year crime spree has been sentenced to 12 life prison terms without parole plus 20 years.

Marvin Martin, 33, was sentenced to the prison terms on Wednesday.

Martin was convicted by a jury of rape, aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault with intent to rape and kidnapping in connection with attacks on seven women.

He searched for women along an industrial corridor in the Atlanta area and either coaxed or forced them into his vehicle - which was most often a white 18-wheeler - between 2005 and 2009, prosecutors said.

Martin remained elusive until the summer of 2009, when police were able to link him to the crimes from a unique Department of Transportation number imprinted on the truck he drove during several of the attacks, according to a report from the Fulton County District Attorney's Office.

Following his arrest, investigators used DNA to link him to several rapes, prosecutors said.
