On Dec. 13, the John Strother Sunday School class of First United Methodist Church of Marietta had its annual Christmas party at the Marietta home of Linda and Felton Hagood. The adult class, with more than 150 members, is named after Strother who began teaching in the '60s. Felton has attended the class since 1974.

More than 100 people attended the party on the coldest evening of the winter. Wilma DuVal of The Party Girl catered the holiday dinner buffet. Guests dined on rosemary pork tenderloin with chutney, pickled shrimp, cheese puffs, sweet and sour meatballs, artichoke casserole and and an array of delicious desserts. K. Mike Whittle Floral Designs of Marietta decorated the home beautifully and created a festive setting.

With too many attendees to name, here is just a sampling: Outgoing class presidents Judi and Bob Snelson and incoming 2011 presidents Eola and Bob Hovey, Jean Alice and Mayor Steve "Thunder" Tumlin and his wife, Jean Alice, Billie and Micky Blackwell, Carol and Jim Boone, Tom and Lucy Browning, Becky and Ray Buday, Kee and Karen Carlisle, Lillian and Buddy Darden, Marcelle and Bill David, Gay and Dr. Waights Henry, Cathy and Richard Kampa, Cissy and Frank Mann, Carol Ann and John Martin, Susie and Frank Moore, Beverly and Don McAfee, Lynn and Diane Rainey, Caroline and Paul Ross, Mary Lou and Dan Stephens, Sandra Stephens, Janice and David Tucker, and Kathy and Neely Young.

The Hagoods donated leftover food to the Women's Extension on Holiday Street.

On Dec. 16, Joanne Walker hosted an annual Christmas luncheon at her Marietta home for a group of nine friends that have celebrated together for 50 years. The group recently threw a jewelry party at the Marietta home of Mary Suhr, raising money for a family that was being evicted from their home. The ladies made it possible for the children to have Christmas and for the family to stay in the home.

The fabulous nine include: Nan Durham, Sarah Farrar, Nancy Ryle, Anne Stribling, Mary Suhr, Anne Ray, June Vreeland and Joanne Walker. Lindy Suhr Wyche and Tricia Walker Wilson were helpers, servers and elves.

Fashion spotlight of the week: Seen spreading Christmas cheer in a Santa red knit dress embellished with black piping - a merry, Mary Ladd.
