SMYRNA — A Smyrna police sergeant who shot and killed an unarmed man described why he chose to open fire in an interview with investigators released Monday. Sgt. Kenneth Owens, who has worked at the Smyrna Police Department for 13 years, said he has “a clear conscience” after firing the shot that killed Nicholas Thomas, 23, of Smyrna.
