Friday, the Longhorns delivered on these expectations.
Six different players scored rushing touchdowns in the first half as Kell earned a decisive 48-0 victory over North Springs at Cobb Energy/Corky Kell Stadium.
“I’ve always said that you could never have enough running backs,” Cook said. “(Friday) we were able to score on all facets of the game and allowed our bench to get some solid playing time early in the contest.”
Kell (4-1) scored on its first possession of the contest when Jay Moxey ran through the middle for a 9-yard touchdown to give the Longhorns an early 6-0 lead 2 minutes into the game.
North Springs (0-4) punted the ball on its next possession and Moxey took advantage of his opportunity and returned the punt 51 yards for a touchdown to make the score 13-0.
Kell proceeded to score touchdowns on its next four possessions, mostly through the middle of the Spartans’ defense. The first one of this set came courtesy of a 38-yard touchdown run by senior Brendan Langley. The next three were scored by Jamari Moore, Khalil Bell and Seth Brown on runs of 58, 10 and 1 yard, respectively.
The final score of the contest for the Longhorns happened on the last play of the first half when quarterback Cameron Rosendahl scored on a 1-yard plunge to give Kell the 48-0 lead.
The Longhorn defense allowed only six total yards from the Spartans in the first half and North Springs finished the contest with 1 yard of offense.
Seth Brown led Kell with a game-high 59 yards on the ground, while Moore paced the Longhorns with 57 rushing yards of his own.
The Longhorns will travel to Riverwood for its next contest and begin play within Region 7AAAAA (B).
“(Friday’s) performance should invigorate our guys to prepare for a tough contest against Riverwood next week,” said Cook. “Our playoffs begin next Friday and we’re going to have to play well for the rest of the season to reach our goals.”
