MABLETON - Pebblebrook took a step closer to making the state playoffs for the first time since 2007 with a convincing 44-16 victory over Campbell on a rainy Friday night at Falcon Stadium.

The Falcons (4-5, 3-2) rushed for 340 yards in the contest and were led by quarterback C.J. Goodman, who rushed for 58 of his game-high 152 yards on a scoring run with 5:55 left in the first quarter to give Pebblebrook the early 7-0 lead.

"C.J. is a special player," said Pebblebrook head coach Randall Smith. "If we block and give him lanes to run in, C.J. always has a chance to score on any play."

Cambell (1-8, 1-5) was able to take advantage of a fumbled pitch by Pebblebrook late in the first quarter, eventually recovered by Morgan Ford, by scoring on the next drive through a four-yard run by Darius Harris to cut the lead to 7-6.

Pebblebrook proceeded to score 23 points in the second quarter, starting with a four-yard touchdown run by Khalid Henderson with 8:52 left in the first half. Goodman scored the second of his three touchdowns in the game on a 34-yard run on an option keeper to increase the Falcons' lead to 21-6.

"Tonight, I wanted to run for as many yards as possible, lead the offense and get the win," said Goodman. "Our entire team kept hearing about us not making the playoffs in years and we wanted to get rid of any doubt by others."

The Spartans were driving to score with 38 seconds left in the first half when Pebblebrook's Dominique Cummings intercepted a pass attempt from Ricky James and returned it 95 yards for a touchdown and sealed the victory for the Falcons. Pebblebrook's final score in the first half came with seven seconds left when Eric Mendez kicked a 46-yard field goal to give the Falcons a 30-6 lead heading into halftime.

Goodman scored his final touchdown of the contest on a 16-yard run on Pebblebrook's first possession in the second half. It was his 12th rushing touchdown of the season, a team-high. The Spartans managed to get their second score of the game with 4:48 left in the third quarter when Austin Green ran a handoff 5 yards for a touchdown.

"Pebblebrook is an excellent team," said Campbell head coach Harris Rainbow. "We tried hard tonight as a team but we're disappointed with the result."

The Falcons will now prepare to face rival South Cobb in the regular season finale for both teams next Saturday.

"(Friday) was a good win but we still have work to do as a team to reach our goals," said Smith. "South Cobb will be a difficult opponent and we still have a lot to play for."

Coach Smith is a class act. The team win in all ways with him as coach! I salute him.
