JONESBORO — Ricky James found Armand Gazda for two touchdowns in the first half, and Darius Harris finished with 118 rushing yards and two touchdowns as Campbell cruised to a 35-6 victory over Morrow on Friday at Tara Stadium.

With the win, the Spartans snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.

“I’m proud of our kids,” Campbell coach Harris Rainbow said. “We worked really hard this offseason. I’m thrilled that our kids got to taste a little victory early in the season. Hopefully, we can continue.”

Against a team that went winless last year, Campbell didn’t take long to get on the scoreboard. James highlighted the Spartans’ opening drive with a pass to Gazda which resulted in a 40-yard gain.

With the ball on the 2, Harris plowed his way into the end zone and Enrique Yenny made a long extra point for a 7-0 lead with 9:41 left in the first quarter.

Following an empty possession, the Spartans returned to the end zone, thanks to a 24-yard juggling catch by Harris then a 24-yard touchdown reception by Gazda with 10:14 to go in the second quarter.

Despite leading by just two scores, Campbell went for an onside kick on the ensuing kickoff and came away successful, recovering the ball on Morrow’s 40.

“We felt like we had the momentum on our side and it was a good time to keep the momentum,” Rainbow said.

Eight plays later, the Spartans’ risk turned into a 21-point lead on a 20-yard touchdown catch from James to Gazda with 6:35 left before halftime.

“Armand made some great plays,” said Rainbow of his tight end, who finished with 84 receiving yards. “It was working tonight. They were double covering our receivers and our wings and kind of left him open a little bit.”

Morrow scored after Alkeithion Whittner returned Campbell’s second-half kickoff 75 yards to the 22, and Jose Cervantes made a 1-yard touchdown pass to Sterling Taylor three plays later for a 21-6 score.

But Michael Rogers would add to the Spartans’ margin with a 3-yard rushing touchdown late in the third and Harris tacked on a 1-yard TD run midway in the fourth quarter.

Prince Butler also had two interceptions — one in the end zone — for the Spartans.
