CARTERSVILLE — An entire game plagued with penalties was not enough to stop Allatoona from bringing home its first Class AAAAA win. The Buccaneers beat Woodland 45-20.

Earlier in the week head football coach Gary Varner said his team didn’t have enough depth, but this game showed that Allatoona had enough to compete in any class.

“It was a good win. We definitely feel like we belong here, there’s no question about that. It’s just a matter of can we get better,” Varner said.

While Varner was pleased with the win, he said this was a “very, very sloppy” game as the Bucs had more than 10 penalties costing valuable yardage, which he said could hurt them later in the season.

The star of this game was sophomore running back Josh Beautista. With only 13 rushes, Beautista scored three touchdowns.

“He did a great job. This was his first varsity time to get some action. He’s only a tenth grader so we’re really happy to have him. Varner said.

Beautista helped give the Bucs the edge over Woodland that allowed them to rest their varsity players and give the junior varsity some experience.

The Buccaneers opened by scoring the first touchdown less than 1 minute into the game. Senior running back TJ Herron fumbled a handoff by quarterback Jeremy Uzee, but luckily it was recovered in the end zone by a fellow Buccaneer, putting them up 7-0 with 11:11 still left in the first quarter.

Nate Shaw converted a field goal in the second quarter putting the Bucs up 24-7.

Herron and Uzee were key players as well, both putting up great numbers and contributing to the final score of the night.

“TJ came out and started the game real well for us, but we had to get him out,” said Varner as he mentioned Herron being hurt earlier in the season.

Allatoona will face Paulding County next week.

you got to mention the defense!! how about the pick number 5 Alex Ison had (who had 111 tackles,4 picks @ 4 fumble recoveries last yr) , and the whole defense holding another team down! The scores came off jv defense which even played well against there starters!! Come on guys its not all about offense which was all that was mostly talked about last year and starting again this year.
