Muriel Wilbur, 87, of Acworth, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014. Funeral service is Saturday, 3pm at New Salem Baptist Church in Kennesaw with Pastor Nicholas Pepper officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Wilbur will lie in state at the Church on Saturday from 2pm until service hour. A lifelong resident of Cobb County, Mrs. Wilbur never lived far from her Church, New Salem Baptist, where her membership was for more than fifty years. Her very active involvement at the Church included teaching during Vacation Bible School for fifty years, the Concerned Women’s Group, and the Women’s Mission Union (WMU). Her love for Christ was apparent in all aspects of her life especially while providing a loving home for her husband and children. Muriel was preceded in death by her husband – A.J. Wilbur, parents – Clarence & Estelle Guffey, sister – Geraldine Morris, and brother – Harold Guffey. Those who survive are children: son – Douglas Wilbur of Acworth, daughters – Brenda Lawler of Marietta, and Anita Brown of Acworth; brothers – William Guffey of TN, and Elton R. Guffey of FL; sisters – Delores Anderson of GA, and Janet Gossett of GA. There are also six grandchildren and six great grandchildren that survive. The family is receiving friends at Winkenhofer Pine Ridge Funeral Home Friday from 5pm until 9pm. In lieu of flowers, donations have been requested to be made to the WMU at New Salem Baptist Church, 836 New Salem Rd NW Kennesaw, GA 30152.
