Allan B. (Mike) Webb, Junior, a long time member of the Marietta community, passed away Thursday, November 7, 2013.  He was 89 years old. Mike led a rich life and touched the lives of countless people. His early life was spent in Mississippi.  Mike and his family moved to the Marietta area during his high school years.  He immediately became a vital presence at Marietta High School where he was honored to be chosen Mr. MHS in 1942 and served as editor of the Pitchfork. After high school he entered Georgia Tech; however, World War II interrupted his studies.  He served as a draftsman in the Pacific Theater.  (In fact, he delighted in informing all who would listen that his service was for “3 years, 3 months, and 3 days”). Upon the end of the war, he resumed his studies at Tech - graduating in 1948.  Although he had received a degree in Chemical Engineering, he spent his career in advertising.  He was in partnership with Perma-Ad-Ideas of Atlanta and later bought Cameo Advertising. A true “people person” - his personality and integrity allowed his professional life to be most rewarding. But it was truly as a Family Man that Mike would want to be remembered.  As the patriarch of a large family, he always served as the leader and head of his loving and lively group. Mike married his high school sweetheart, Mary Jane Ward, (Miss MHS 1942) in September, 1947.  Mike and Mary Jane were blessed with four children: Beverly, Meredith, Randy, and David. In May, 1974 Mike was blessed yet again when he married the beautiful Louise Flowers Burnett.  She and her two daughters, Elizabeth and Kathryn, joined this loving family. Through the years, the Webb family enjoyed numerous family gatherings, delicious meals, and many wonderful Thanksgiving trips to Gulf Shores.  Another favorite vacation spot was Hamilton, Montana, the site of joyous decades of summers spent enjoying fly fishing, and time spent appreciating God’s wonders. Mike was proud to be a longtime member of Marietta’s First Presbyterian Church.  Through the years he was involved as the chairman of the diaconate and also served as an Elder and member of various committees. He is survived by his loving wife Louise and children: Beverly (Bob) McCollum, Meredith (Bill) Dykes, Randy (Pam) Webb, David (Jenny) Webb, Elizabeth Miller, and Kathryn Carter.  Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.  Mike also leaves behind his devoted sister, Jane Webb Walton, and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 2:00pm at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta with Rev. Denise Beltzner officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2:00pm - prior to the service in the church library. n lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church Marietta, 189 Church Street, Marietta, GA 30060 or the Salvation Army or Wounded Warriors. Mayes Ward-Dobbins Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta will be handling the arrangements. 770-428-1511.
