A Smyrna woman is charged with aggravated assault with the intent to murder after police say she harmed her 10-year-old daughter.

Shawan Wiley Emer has been arrested by Smyrna police after her daughter said she was struck in the head multiple times with a chair leg, causing blood to drip down her face, according to an arrest warrant.

Emer reportedly threw the child against a bedroom and living room wall while muttering words the girl told police she could not understand.

The child also told police her mother took a knife and “scratched” her on the arms and legs causing small cuts that bled, and threatened to kill her stepmother if she told anyone about the assault.

Emer is also charged with felony count of cruelty to children.
