Will city choose 'dishonest path' on loan to MRC?

Dear Editor:

I read with dismay that the Mayor and City Council are considering allowing default on the $4 million bank loan to the Marietta Redevelopment Corp. MRC was created by the city government and the city government should take full responsibility for it. Even hinting that the city would allow default on this loan is reprehensible. They may have erected legal separations, but morally the city should be fully responsible.

If the city chooses this dishonest path, voters should never trust the city with another dime for “redevelopment.” I’ve supported every bond issue on the ballot for the last 22 years we’ve lived in the city, but if they shirk their duty on past commitments, I’ll certainly vote against the upcoming bond issue for Franklin Road redevelopment and urge all Marietta voters to do the same.
