I am appalled. I contacted our congressman to get a pass, so we might take a tour of the White House this spring. I was told unless I was willing to give our Social Security Numbers, a pass would not be possible. They told me it was for security reasons, Yet, we can visit the Capitol, any of the monuments, etc., without giving out Social Security Numbers.
I understand the need for security. We have been to Washington before. Your bags are checked, in some cases you must rent a locker and carry nothing inside the building you are visiting. You go through metal detectors, they check everything, But in order to visit the White House, and only the White House, you must give your Social Security Number to who knows who. With all the security breaches we have heard about lately, seriously? I am expected to hand over my number to what does not even appear to be a secure site, to visit a house I help pay for?
I do not mind giving my full name, addresses, birthdate and gender but I will not hand over my Social Security Number to some unknown handler. I won’t get to see the house I have been paying for the past 51 years and I think this is wrong.
We have lived in the same house over 40 years, we have paid our taxes, we are not exactly hard to check on — yet, we will not be allowed to visit the White House. How do so many foreign visitors get in the White House? Just wondering.
I have seen the lines, waiting to enter. It does not appear they all have SSN. Oh, by the way, we can go in the Capitol where all the business of our country is carried out, where all the senators and congressmen meet, where laws are made and records are kept. Where priceless art is displayed and irreplaceable documents are displayed. I guess it is not as important as the White House.
