Two Marietta couples at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in east Cobb celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on the same day! Marge and Keith Crozier and Christine and Ernie Carlson were married on Aug. 23, 1953.

The couples figured out they shared the same anniversary through their church. The church keeps a flower chart where families sign up to put flowers in the sanctuary. Years ago, Marge called Chris who had signed up for Aug. 23. She asked if that date was a special occasion because Marge wanted to put the flowers in the church that day. From then on, the couples placed the flowers together.

The Croziers, who met on a blind date, married in Jefferson, Iowa. They came to Marietta for work. Keith works part-time for Pugmire Lincoln in sales. They have three grown sons, six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The Carlsons married in Omaha, Neb. Christine, who is from northern Michigan, went to work in a clinic in Ernie’s home state of Nebraksa. Forty years ago after several moves, American Can Company transferred the couple to Georgia where Ernie was a purchaser at the time. He later retired from Cobb County’s purchasing department The couple has three daughters, all born in different states — Nebraska, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania.

The ladies agree the secret to their long marriages is communication, commitment and sticking to it.
