Two west Cobb homes were thought to have been hit by lightning Sunday morning, causing minor damage, said Denell Lee Boyd, a spokesman for the Cobb County Fire Department.

At around 8 a.m., lightening hit a hole in the front door at 1344 Benbrooke Lane, Acworth, and started a small fire, which was out by the time the fire department arrived, Boyd said. Firefighters covered the hole with a tarp.

No injuries were reported, but Boyd said the family was evacuated when firefighters arrived.

Just a few minutes later, at 8:16 a.m., the fire officials were called to 1619 Fernstone Dr. in Acworth after lightning struck the house and generated smoke in the attic, Boyd said. The family was evacuated, and there was some damage to the home, but Boyd could not elaborate Sunday morning.

No injuries were reported, he added.

Further details were not provided to the MDJ Sunday morning.
