Grab your pigskin, pad up, and get ready for Marietta’s biggest football party! On Saturday, the Marietta Educational Garden Center will host “Screen on the Green” tailgate party for the University of Georgia versus Auburn game beginning at 6 p.m.

Fans are invited to watch the big game on the big screen on the lawn at MEGC, 505 Kennesaw Ave. in Marietta. Prizes will be awarded for the best table and best-dressed fans.

A table of eight costs $250 and includes complimentary appetizers. Tailgate fare can be purchased for $25 extra per person. Beverages are BYOB.

Michelle Davenport, member of the Board of Trustees at MEGC and UGA fan, said, “Georgia/Auburn is the South’s oldest rivalry.”

The two teams’ first game was in Piedmont Park in Atlanta. They have met on the gridiron each year since 1892.

Although Auburn leads Georgia in wins, Georgia has won more of the last 10 games. Needless to say, Davenport and Auburn graduate Melissa Worley take different positions on the Nov. 10 game. One thing they do agree on is that the upcoming tailgate will be entertaining.

“A good tailgate party is a way for Southerners to compete amongst themselves and show their team spirit. It ranges from the beverages to the table decor to the food. It’s just a fun, fun tradition,” Worley said.

“We picked this game for the fundraiser because there is overwhelming support for both sides and the time of the year too,” Davenport said. “We know the party will be fun, but we’re hoping that it will be a financial success as well.”

Proceeds benefit MEGC, a nonprofit organization. For more information, visit www.mariettagardencenter.com or call (770) 427-3494. For reservations, email mgardenc@bellsouth.net. Mail checks payable to MEGC to 505 Kennesaw Ave., Marietta, GA, 30060.
