Terrorists don’t know Americans

DEAR EDITOR:

It appears that terrorists, know little or nothing of the strength, the resilience and the inner resources of the American people. We emerge from almost every tragedy, stronger and more determined.

The Japanese found that out shortly after they bombed Pearl Harbor in 1941. The attack was intended to daze, confuse and dishearten the American people, destroying their will to fight. In reality, it bound a nation together with a single purpose. DESTROY THE ENEMY! For those who did not get the message earlier, it was made abundantly clear on August 6, 1945, when Hiroshima was literally destroyed by the first of two atomic bombs.

The terrorist attacks, dating all the way back to the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993 to Monday’s bombing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, had the same purpose: to confuse, terrify, dishearten and divide the American people, leaving them open to conquest.

What they do not understand, just as the Japanese did not understand, is that the American spirit is unconquerable. It cannot be defeated because it has so many faces and exists in so many places. It exists at the Alamo, Yankee Stadium, the Epcot Center, Six Flags over Texas, the foot of the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument, Carnegie Hall and Madison Square Garden.

It exists in the bat of Babe Ruth, the guitar pick of Johnny Cash, the gloves of Ali, the baton of John Phillip Sousa, and the crack in the Liberty Bell. It is unmistakable in the words, “O’ say can you see ...” or “God Bless America,” or “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” or “I Pledge Allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America.”

It wears many faces, from the wonder of the adolescent to the wisdom of the elderly, to those whose ancestors made this great nation, as they assembled here from Ireland, Italy, Scotland, England, France, Spain, China, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and on and on to work together to create the greatest nation on this earth.

The faces of the Spirit of America come in all colors and shapes — red, yellow, black, white, tan, long faces, fat faces, bearded faces, smooth faces, wrinkled faces, sad faces and smiling faces. It takes them all to bind this great people together.

The Spirit of America has survived terrible tragedies and devastating wars, including one which almost forever split the nation, but we survived, as one, and we will continue to survive, because of our spirit, our resolve and our inner strength, bolstered by our faith in ourselves and our gods, whoever they may be.

No, the terrorists have no idea just who they are dealing with, but they, like the Japanese, one day will be called to account. On that day, they will feel the wrath of the “sleeping giant, awakened and filled with a terrible resolve.”

God Bless America!

To Kevin: You wtote "I'm not here to disappoint you. I'm here with a candle. Keep watching and reading and learning".

I apologize for thinking we had a basis for communication. Obviously, we do not. I have been reading your stuff for some time and the only thing I have learned is that you are hopelessly addicted to the liberal Kool-aid and have nothing but contempt for anyone who does not sop up your crap and grovel at your feet for more.

Sorry, but I do my own thinking, without the aid of radical loudmouths, on either side of the aisle. That includes you, Kevin.

Please don't presume to try to teach me anything. You are sadly lacking in qualifications.

BTW, since you are in Russia, and you love socialism so much, why don't you just stay there? That would increase the intelligence level, and improve the gene pool, in the U. S. and Russia.

@ Nettie - Wow, what a nasty, bitter comeback to my inviting you to learn.

I'm fascinated by folks like you (and Middleton) who have made up your minds about everything and everybody. There's no room for anything new or different. You just know what you know, end of story. Conservatism good. Progressivism bad. But I'll bet a dollar to a donut you enjoy Social Security and Medicare benefits, both important progressive initiatives. You're welcome.

Anyway, Nettie, as I grow older I'm going to keep my mind open, listen and learn.

@ Kevin. Kevin, you said "Most all terrorism experts agree AQ is decimated."

Looks like you, Obama and most all terrorism experts are wrong, again. The Canadian authorities have arrested people and uncovered an

AQ plot to attack trains running from Toronto to New York.

So much for AQ being decimated.

Anybody who thought that killing bin Laden would be the end of AQ is a fool at worst, or totally naive. at best.

@ Middleton - Oh, is that what Fox is saying? Wow.

I can't do all the work around here. Why don't you turn Hannity and Coulter off and do a Google search. Be a high information voter, George.

Sorry, Foley. but I don't listen to Hannity or anyone else on Fox. I seldom pay attention to radicals on either side. I would not bother with you except for the fact that you are such an entertaining Bozo. Never right, but entertaining.

Evidently you have not heard, or you choose to ignore, the news story about the Canadian authorities apprehending the AQ operatives and uncovering a plot to bomb trains running from Canada to the U.S.

Poor Kevin. Your confirmation bias is really working overtime on this one.

Get back to me when you catch up with the rest of the world.

Oh, in case you have not heard, the Boston Bombers were Muslims. They were not angry old, white Christian conservatives as you and the rest of the empty headed liberal press wished for.

LOL

@ Papermill gal (whoever you are) - Maybe you missed it, but Osama bin Laden was killed at the direction of the commander in chief. Most all terrorism experts agree AQ is decimated. The rest of your post reads just like an Ann Coulter screed. Coincidence?

Anyway, look for my Friday column. I'm writing it with people like you who call yourselves conservatives in mind.

Kevin, please don't disappoint me. I have hope for you, but you are again resorting to the aggressive.

While I agree that Papermill gal was over the top with her comments, you would be better served to moderate your wrath and address her points in a civilized manner.

Insults only escalate and magnify differences.

they seldom accomplish anything. Keep that in mind, as you respond and also in your column on Friday.

OK, more Alinsky attacks on people you don't even know. Go for it, it's what we've come to expect from you.

So UBL was killed at the direction of the CinC? Are you sure about that, or did the SEALS just take him out instead of capturing him to mirandize him?

Ann Coulter is a darned good writer, thanks for the comparison. "People like me" appreciate that compliment. "People like you" should try actually addressing facts sometime, instead of attacking personalities.

Ms. Stemm, your letter was beautifully written and the spirit of your patriotism is well appreciated. I just hate to see liberals pretend to agree when there is no substance backing their red, white and blueness.

@ Nettie, I'm not here to disappoint you. I'm here with a candle. Keep watching and reading and learning.

@ Papermill gal, you know why Gingrich brought up Alinsky in South Carolina last year? Because it's a Jewish name and he knows how people in the South feel about Jews. He tried to manipulate you and it appears to have worked.

Foley, you liked this letter because it stressed diversity. OK...so did I (conservative). But the part about surviving because of our "spirit, resolve and inner strength" is just a complete disconnect for you and liberals like you, who refuse to take the premise to its logical conclusion in order to keep America safe and free.

Who do you think makes the hard decisions to actually ACT on terrorism? fighting terrorism isn't about intangibles like "spirit" when it comes to practical application. You might agree in principle, but that's where you go off the road, i.e. you support a party and a president that has NO plan to fight terrorism nor will they even call it what it is. Your side constantly uses the moral equivocation argument, blames America and denies Islamic supremicism exists. They support mosques at the site of 9-11 bombinbs. They promote and accept radical organizations at the highest levels in our government, allowing them to get inside and influence policy. They put in power radical governments throughout the middle east, hiding the truth behind baloney terms like "Arab Spring." Not until you accept these realities will we believe you have the "spirit and resolve" to fight terrorism.
