Sutton practices almost exclusively in the area of insurance defense litigation, with his practice devoted to the representation of employers, insurers, self-insured companies and servicing agents in workers’ compensation claims throughout Georgia. He also has experience representing individuals and businesses in various civil liability claims and insurance coverage and premium disputes.
Sutton has devoted also time to serving the legal profession. He has been a trustee of the Cobb County Bar Association since 2007, was president of the Cobb County Bar Association YLD from 2007-08 and is currently the Cobb County Bar Association’s treasurer. In recognition of his service, Sutton was awarded the Cobb County Bar Association President’s Award in 2008 and 2009, and he received the Ross Adams Young Lawyer Division Award in 2010.
From 2005-07, Sutton served as a representative on the State Bar of Georgia Young Lawyers Division’s Executive Council. A graduate of the YLD’s Leadership Academy in 2007, he became a director of the YLD in 2008. He was appointed co-editor of the YLD’s newsletter that same year and served in that capacity until 2010, when he was elected YLD secretary and, in subsequent years, treasurer and president-elect.
Sutton is also a member of the State Bar of Georgia Executive Committee and has served on the State Bar’s Investigative Panel and its Continuity of Law Practice, Law Practice Management, Programs, Finance and Personnel committees.
He also is a trustee of the Institute of Continuing Legal Education in Georgia, as well as a member of the Chief Justice’s Commission on Professionalism and the Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competency, vice chair of the Cobb County Board of Ethics and a trustee of the Georgia Legal Services Foundation.
He is a graduate of Berry College and earned his Juris Doctorate degree from the Walter F. George School of Law at Mercer University.
The YLD is comprised of approximately 10,000 lawyers admitted to the State Bar of Georgia who are 36 years old or younger or who have been admitted to their first bar for no more than five years. The YLD has been strengthened over the years through guidance by the State Bar of Georgia, its Executive Committee and Board of Directors, the Supreme Court and through dedicated service rendered by its members.
