STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say the man accused of shooting a 2-year-old boy after an argument with his father outside of a grocery store has surrendered to police.

DeKalb County sheriff's officials tell WSB-TV Chazerel Burton surrendered at the county jail Wednesday.

Police have said a good Samaritan tried intervening in an attempted mugging near a Kroger in Stone Mountain June 26 and was later involved in an argument with the suspect.

Police say the suspect later fired between eight and 10 shots into the man's parked car and wounded the boy in his abdomen.

The boy was hospitalized in stable condition, and it's unclear if Burton has an attorney.
