Pack your bags and head to Vegas! The Strand Theatre will bring the lights, glamour and talent from Sin City to its stage at 8 p.m. from March 15 to 17 with “The Vegas Show on the Square.” This family-friendly event will benefit the Strand and Humane Society of Cobb County.

Built around the fictional MARI-GA Airlines, the audience will “fly” to Vegas and see performances from showgirls and other dancers, as well as musical tributes to Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, The Temptations and more.

Local performers will portray a slew of celebrities. Zach Seabaugh, son of Devan and Beth Seabaugh of Marietta, will perform as Justin Bieber. Earl Reece, executive director of The Strand Theatre, saw Seabaugh sing “Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning” at a 9/11 remembrance ceremony last year at Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield.

Reece approached Seabaugh and his father about the 13-year-old performing at the Strand in the future. When the idea for a Vegas-themed show developed, Seabaugh was considered to portray the teen pop star.

Seabaugh said he likes to sing and has played guitar for nearly eight years. He is a leader in his youth band at First United Methodist Church of Marietta and has performs in Pine Mountain Middle School’s annual play.

He also competed in Cuppy’s Idol at Cuppy’s Coffee in Kennesaw. He came in second place, beating Pip Arnold of Marietta who is featured on NBC’s “The Voice.”

Of the Vegas show, Seabaugh said, “I thought it would be a good opportunity.” His big number is “Baby,” which he said will involve interacting with the audience. He will also be singing backup and dancing with other acts.

“I’m just really excited. It is going to be a great experience,” he said. “I want to thank (Reece) for getting me involved in this.”

Catherine Rhodes, music director for “The Vegas Show” and events and development assistant at The Strand Theatre, said performers encompass a variety of ages. She couldn’t give away all the surprises but instead offered this: “(The audience) can expect a lot of sparkle and flash in the show — lots of bright, beautiful sequins and feathers.”

However, she said there is one part of the show everyone should look forward to. “I think the most exciting thing I can hint about would be the finale and just to be surprised and excited about the awesome ideas we have,” she said.

The airline theme was created by Reece. Rhodes said, “He is so unbelievably creative. That’s one of the best things about working with him. He’s always spewing out these just fantastic, really entertaining ideas.”

The cast will rehearse for two weeks, have three days on the stage and then the show will open. Rhodes said, “That is an overwhelming prospect and at the same time, such an amazing challenge and so exciting. It’s really kept everyone working hard and very positive and focused. We are really looking forward to it.”

“The Vegas Show” is the first part of four live musical theater travelogues to destinations in the nation. Broadway, Hollywood and Nashville are potential themes for future shows.

Tickets are $25, and there will be assigned seating. Doors open at 7 p.m., and there will be a cash bar.
