MARIETTA - A former accounting manager for the State Road and Tollway Authority pleaded guilty Tuesday in Cobb County Superior Court to six counts of first-degree forgery.
Prosecutors say Dawn Lynette Carter forged checks on Authority accounts totaling nearly $15,000.
Cobb Superior Court Judge James Bodiford sentenced her to five years probation under the First Offender’s Act, and ordered her to pay $14,470 in restitution and a $1,000 fine plus surcharges, according to the Georgia Attorney General’s Office.
The Attorney General Office said a routine audit revealed that shortly before Carter left the state department, she wrote six checks in the check processing system without using the traditional approval process.
Four checks were made payable to two different foundations for which Carter was listed as the CEO. Two other checks were made payable to Walden University on her behalf.
Carter admitted the thefts to Georgia Bureau of Investigation agents.
