DEAR EDITOR:

I felt compelled to write given the recent negativity surrounding Kennesaw politics and development.

While I certainly do not claim to be an expert on “The Big Shanty” there are some very exciting things that have happened in the year since we moved our business here.

Moon Station Road has experienced a renaissance with the arrival of Burnt Hickory Brewery, whose tastings attract hundreds from all over the city, and when Lazy Guy Distillery opens, tourism will follow.

If having a distillery was not an attractive and unique business, surrounding cities would not have fought so hard for it, and its status as the first in the metropolitan Atlanta area is important.

Burger Fi brings its South Florida success to downtown and with other locations in places like Napa, Manhattan and Austin, Texas, we’re in good company.

Trackside Grill continues to go strong and with plans to revitalize the rest of the historic district to give it the kind of feel that places like Acworth, Decatur, Norcross and Woodstock have in their city centers — something special can happen here.

Kennesaw can be transformed from a sleepy suburban town to a thriving community with activity downtown all day and night. We already have the university, the strong schools, one of Cobb’s largest and most active business associations and plenty of national retailers.

Let’s finish the work to make downtown special.

These projects cannot happen without strong economic development leadership and the entrepreneurial drive to succeed.
