Safe America Foundation has launched a program to help Georgia National Guardsmen returning from tours of duty in Afghanistan.

The “Welcome Home, Heroes!/Veteran Transitional Services Program” will be launched in Marietta with a two-hour seminar April 9.

A Metro Atlanta “Safe Communities” Task Force will hear details on the program rollout at a luncheon in Atlanta on Feb. 26. Run by Atlanta Medical Center, the program is designed for veterans and their families and will look at the issues soldiers face reintegrating into civilian life. A key component will be addressing the mental and psychological scars of having served in combat.
