Freddie William “Fred” Shonkwiler, age 79, of Marietta, Ga. passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013. Memorial Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta with Rev. Leonard Akers and officiating. Interment will follow at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton at 2:30 p.m. A native of Ohio, Mr. Shonkwiler moved to Marietta, Ga. 40 years ago. He worked for Curtis Industries in Cleveland, Ohio for 25 years, then was employed at Scoggins Realty of Smyrna, Ga. as an Appraiser. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean War, was a member of the West Cobb Lion’s Club, enjoyed serving as a Boy Scout executive for many years, and was an active member of Hollydale United Methodist Church. Survivors include: wife, Joyce Shonkwiler, Marietta, Ga.; two Sons, Bill (Anita) Shonkwiler, Marietta, Ga. and Marty (Angie) Shonkwiler, Powder Springs, Ga.; brother, Monte Shonkwiler, Roswell, Ga.; grandchild, Erin Pethel, Hiram, Ga.; great-grandchildren, Anthony, Spencer and Alexandria Pethel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hollydale United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends on Monday from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at West Cobb Funeral Home and Crematory in Marietta.
