Participants can dispose of their live Christmas trees in an eco-friendly manner through a recycling program by the garden experts at Pike Nurseries.

Because live Christmas trees are biodegradable, they can be used for other purposes, including garden mulch, soil erosion barriers or bird feeders. Evergreen Christmas trees are acidic, so their compost is very beneficial for acid-loving plants, such as azaleas and caladiums. This season’s Christmas trees were extra green and moist because of the previous rainy summer, so they are especially ideal for compost and new life.

Customers looking to recycle their trees can drop them off free of charge at their local Pike Nurseries store. The garden center is also offering a Christmas tree pick-up and disposal service, so customers have the option to call and schedule a pick-up for $50 through Jan. 31. Customers who purchased a Christmas tree with its stand also have the option to return them through Jan. 31 to receive a Pike Nurseries $10 discount off anything in the store.

Cobb County locations for Pike Nurseries include 3602 Cobb Parkway in Acworth, and 1875 Roswell Road, Marietta, 3431 Barrett Parkway Northwest in west Cobb and 2900 Johnson Ferry Road in east Cobb.
