“Around Town” column: Sources confirm Cobb target of FBI probe ...
SevenOneFour — There is a difference between graft and incompetence, but as I have heard many times, ignorance of the law and a lack of common sense aka stupidity is not a legitimate defense. Some government employees are purposely skirting the law. Others are just clueless and have such a perverted entitlement attitude that they just don’t realize what they are doing is illegal. Doesn’t matter. Wrong is wrong and should be prosecuted.
Thanks Goodness! — Hopefully, some of the good ole boys and cronies will be rooted out. This has been needed for a long time. It seems there is corruption with only a few being awarded the most high-profile, government jobs in Cobb. It’s not just your government, ya’ll; it’s the rest of our government, too — most of us who pay taxes don’t have a chance at those high profile, appointed, government jobs! That’s not fair!
Anonymous — To its credit, Cobb government has been clean as the proverbial whistle in recent decades, as best as can be determined.
Be Careful — Are you kidding? You must not have any interaction with local “elected officials” in your day to day activities. I do. Cobb is NOT clean, not by a long shot.
Big Shanty Girl — “as best as can be determined” by who? Nice try Tim!
Kennesaw Resident — I work in another county and frequently tell those folks that Cobb County is a banana republic. I guess I was right!
James Bell — If you have information on corruption in government you can report it to the FBI Atlanta. (404) 679-9000.
Cobb Snitch — I know this place.
WellStar politicos — Have the FBI check out the payola to allow WellStar to skirt zoning on their East Cobb plans.
Be Careful — I hope they also investigate Kennesaw.
Cobb Snitch — Cobb is under investigation. I was able to confirm this with my FBI handler.
Pelligra — tell them to look into the Sheriff’s office.
Agreed 2 Chat w/ FBI — My sources tell me the FBI investigation into corruption in Cobb County involves the relationship between judges, attorneys, outcomes in cases, awards of fees to the attorneys and GALs, and follows media investigations that suggest this has been happening.
An opinion — No secret that attorneys campaign for judges in hopes of being the chosen ones to try cases for the public defender in those courtrooms. Pretty obvious that certain judges only allow their supporters to try cases in their courtrooms and collect fees from the county for doing so.
SG68 — Surely this should not come as a surprise. I hope the supposed investigation comes up empty, but it never hurts to take a close look at our county and city governments on occasion to make sure they are observing the letter and the intent of the law.
Come and Get Them — Well it’s about time. All the contract deals with the county manager and commissioners!
Jack & Jill — Note to FBI, check out the mules and the money spent to train them by a Cobb employee relative. Check out artificial turf carpeting our schools and parks. Check out the purchase of used dump trucks with more mileage and use than the ones already owned by Cobb — from a crony of Cobb politicians. Check out renting space from the Chamber of Commerce for Community Development instead of using tons of empty space in buildings owned by the taxpayers.
Check out our street light fund excesses transferred to the general fund instead of giving back the fees to taxpayers. Check out the transfer of water department money and then raising the water rates. Check out why we have so many wasteful projects — brick medians and walkways, stone walls built along the roadways, round-a-bouts instead of stop signs, raised concrete edges at intersections that are useless and dangerous to car tires, especially since you cannot see them at night.
Irked — And what was done for their Acworth health care theme park.
